The Ministry of Industry and Trade has been established in accordance with the GN Approval No. 619A dated 30 August 2023. This Ministry carries out its structural responsibilities in accordance with the directives of the Heads of Government, in line with various national and international plans as outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2030); Africa Agenda 2063; National Development Vision 2025; CCM's Manifesto for the 2020 General Elections; and the Third Five-Year National Development Plan 2021/22-2025/26.

Also, in order to accelerate the construction of the country's industrial economy, the Ministry, in collaboration with various stakeholders, continues to review sectoral Policies, Strategies and Laws so that they are in line with current needs. The exercise goes hand in hand with reviewing sectoral Laws and Strategies including the Leather and Leather Products Sector Development Strategy; Cotton, Textiles to Clothing (C2C) Sector Development Strategy; Sunflower Crop Development Strategy; Trade Remedies Act, 2021; Investment Act (1997) and Competition Act (2003).

In addition, the Ministry is in various stages of preparing new policies on quality issues (National Quality Policy); Patent Rights Policy; participation of Tanzanians in strategic projects and investments (Local Content Policy); and consumer protection issues (National Consumer Protection Policy); and new strategies including the National Export Strategy.
