The Ministry of Trade and Industrial Development had passed through various stages in different years. In 1976, there were separate Ministries as follows

  • Ministry of Foreign Trade
  • Ministry of Internal trade
  • Ministry of Industry
  • Ministry of Information Broadcasting and Tourism
  • Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism
  • Ministry of Trade, Industry and Marketing
  • Ministry of Trade and Industry

Currently the Institution is known as Ministry of Tourism Trade and Industrial Development.


CURRENT STRUCTURE OF THE MINISTRY

The Ministry comprises of the following departments:

  1. Department of the Planning, Policy and Research.
  2. Department of Trade and Marketing.
  3. Department of Industrial Development.
  4. Department   of Administration and Human Resource.
  5.  Ministry of Trade, Industrial Development – Pemba.

Apart from these five departments, there are ten Institutions which also fall under this Ministry, namely:

  1. The Zanzibar State Trading Corporation (ZSTC)
  2.  The Zanzibar Bureau of Standards (ZBS)
  3. Zanzibar National Business Council (ZNBC)
  4. Zanzibar Fair Competition Commission (ZFCC)
  5. Zanzibar Fair Competition Tribunal (ZFCT)
  6. Zanzibar Weights and Measures (ZAWEMA)
  7. Zanzibar Seaweed Company (ZASPO)
  8. Business Licensing Registration Council (BLRC)
  9.  Business Properties Regulatory Agency (BPRA)
  10. Small and Medium Industrial Development Agency (SMIDA)
