Background
The President of the United Republic of Tanzania issued a Notice on assignment of Ministerial responsibilities (Instrument) Vide Government Notice No.384 and 385 of 07th May, 2021 in this Instrument, the President created a Ministry of Works and Transport which is mandated to formulate and monitor implementation of Policies on Works, Construction, Transport and Transportation and their implementation. The Ministry is also responsible for Roads, Bridges, Ferries and Mechanical Matters, Public Works and Government Buildings; Engineering and Design Works, Material Laboratory, Airports Development; Transport Licensing; Civil Aviation; Surface, Marine, Air and Rail Transportation; Harbours and Ports, Safety and Security of Transport; Meteorology; Performance Improvement and Development of Human Resources under this Ministry; Extra-Ministerial Departments, Parastatal Organisations, Agencies and Projects under this Ministry.
Mission
The Mission stands out as follows: “To oversee the provision of quality, reliable and safe construction works of Roads, Bridges, Ferries, Airports, Buildings, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics in collaboration with stakeholders for sustainable socio-economic development that meet the needs of the Public”.

The Vision of the Ministry of Works is “To have quality and reliable infrastructure that promotes socio-economic development of Tanzania”
